In 2008, Goodwill celebrates its 60th Anniversary as an important partner in the social and economic development of West Texas and Southern New Mexico. Goodwill helps individuals who have a hard time finding a job because of a disability or other barriers such as poverty or illiteracy. The Girl Scouts of the Rio Grande can help these individuals, too, by participating in the Good Turn for Goodwill program which emphasizes community, compassion, and concern for our environment. During the school year, the Girl Scouts are invited to collect gently used clothing and household items for Goodwill. Goodwill sells these items in eleven stores in the most populated regions of our service area. Nine stores are located in El Paso, with one store each in Las Cruces and Alamogordo, New Mexico. Goodwill uses the sales of a pair of jeans, for example, to provide free computer training for someone who could otherwise not afford it. The sale of a donated toaster can aid in the employment of a person with cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis. Goodwill is committed to saving the environment, too
Girl Scouts who collect items for Goodwill are helping to preserve our beautiful desert

The Good Turn for Goodwill program promotes Girl Scouting and the good deeds that result from program activities. Participating Girl Scouts will earn a patch and will be honored at a Goodwill Rally at the end of the school year.
